FAQ

The Captain’s Table is run once a year and applications open early July and it culminates with a live final at the end of the year.
We are targeting early stage startups with some proof of concept and customer traction/interest.
You will submit an application, we will follow up with an initial interview. A shortlist of 12-15 are decided by September. We will have a longer DD session with the shortlist candidates. Final 6 will be announced by October. The finalists will be invited to fly to Hong Kong for a 2 day bootcamp in the lead up to the final. Should Covid-19 prevent flights to Hong Kong we will arrange for the same bootcamp and pitch training to be done remotely.
Economy flight for 1 representative of each startup, visa fee, accommodation for 3 nights, food and basic travel in Hong Kong. Finalists will need to procure their own travel insurance and are to be responsible for booking their flights. We will reimburse flight cost against a receipt.
The event is to be streamed live via our Media sponsor Splash247 so our startups will need to be willing for their pitches to be broadcast to a live audience. We will also be running regular vlogs and interviews in the lead up to the competition with announcements via social media channels.
The bootcamps sessions are an invaluable intensive two day course that focuses heavily on pitching skills and presentation. In addition you will receive advice on IP and legal matters in Hong Kong and China for startups, presentations by VCs on what they look for in startups and other tailormade sessions depending on the sector that the startup is focusing on. We also have one on one sessions with mentors, introductions to CEOs of large shipping corporations and other networking opportunities.
The Captain’s Table is unique. We are not an accelerator program, we do not ask for equity we are purely a pitch platform for you to showcase you company to the wider industry. The Captain’s Table is independent and led by industry professionals with access to an extensive network across Asia. Our competition offers maximum exposure but with limited time required for busy startups.
Cash prize, media exposure, mentorship, pitch training, introductions to stakeholders, ecosystem partnerships after the competition and more.
